Are you a Health Care Professional?

Would you like to publish your work but do not know how it works and where to start?

This one-day workshop will take you through the publishing process from start to finish, providing useful tips to maximise your chances of getting your paper published.

Course Description

Facilitated by two Professors and Journal Editors from Edge Hill University, this course will cover:

• An overview of writing for publication
• Choosing the right journal
• Writing different types of papers: reviews, research, service evaluation and QI, protocols
• Top tips for getting your paper published.
• Avoiding common pitfalls
• Dealing with reviewers’ feedback and responding to reviewers
• And personal feedback on developing and writing your paper.

Working on your existing project/study, by the end of the workshop you will have a near finished paper ready to submit to a journal along with a plan for submission.

Delivered by Professor Lyvonne Tume and Professor Greg Irvine this workshop will provide you with everything you need to know to succeed in publishing your work.

This course will take place at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital from 09:00 – 15:30 on 20th May 2024. 

Professor Lyvonne Tume

Lyvonne Tume is Professor of Critical Care Nursing at Edge Hill University. She is the co-editor in chief of Nursing in Critical Care and on the editorial board for Paediatric Critical Care Medicine. She is an intensive care nurse with over 30 years experience both in Australia and in the UK and continues to maintain some clinical practice hours. She has over 130 peer reviewed publications and has held several NIHR research grants.

She is a visiting professor for the School of Health Sciences in Geneva and is a member of the NIHR HTA and a European funding panel. She was previously the Nursing president for the European Society of Paediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care. 

Professor Greg Irving

Greg is an academic General Practitioner with an interest in primary care research and medical education. He has received three consecutive personal National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Fellowships including an Academic Clinical Fellow, Doctoral and Academic Clinical Lecturer awards. Clinically Greg works as an General Practitioner and Consultant in Primary Care in St. Helens.

Greg is Director of the Edge Hill Primary and Integrated Care (EPIC) Research Centre and Associate Director of the Health Research Institute. Greg's research interests have focused on developing and evaluating complex interventions for use in primary care. He has experience in systematic reviews, randomised trials, observational studies along with qualitative research approaches.  Greg is a nationally elected member of the Society of Academic Primary Care (SAPC) Executive committee. He sits on the NIHR Health and Social Care Delivery Research funding panel. He is Fellow of the Royal College of General Practitioners and is a past recipient of the highly prestigious Yvonne Carter award for primary care research.
