Early and Mid-Career Researcher Summer School - 22nd & 23rd July 2024

An intensive 2-day programme has been designed around what early and mid-career researchers feel they need to progress to be fully independent researchers.  The Faculty of Health, Social Care and Medicine Professoriate will be delivering this program, so you can learn from a range of experts with different backgrounds.

Course Description

Day 1 (22nd July 2024):

  • Identifying ECR and MCR and where you are in your career
  • Developing your programme of research
  • Developing yourself as a researcher and assessing your research metrics
  • What I wish I'd been told as an ECR
  • Setting your future career goals and 5-year plan
  • Writing 3* and 4*  papers and why the REF matters
  • Networking, seizing opportunities and building strategic collaborations
  • Managing your time and workload

Day 2 (23rd July 2024):

  • Fellowship or grant, what to choose?
  • The escalating grant application ladder
  • Writing a fellowship application
  • Writing a grant application
  • What I've learned from failed grants
  • A funding panels' perspective
  • Mock funding panel: Bring any fellowship or grant application either in progress or failed applications
  • Moving forward - next steps

 

In-house refreshments and lunch are provided on both days.

 

On Day 1, delegates are invited to attend an optional evening meal and drinks at 'The Sandpiper' - a local pub/restaurant in Ormskirk.
