This test will allow students who do not already hold a GCSE in English Language to be awarded an equivalent qualification for entry onto most Edge Hill University degree programmes. The standalone test allows you to revise at home at your own pace before choosing your exam date. It is designed for those who do not have the time to attend one of our revision courses and feel confident enough to study English at home. The price includes the exam and two further re-sits if required.
The GCSE English equivalency test is for applicants to Edge Hill University degree programmes (excluding Medicine), where GCSE English is included in the entry requirements. Students who do not already hold a GCSE in English Language or a recognised equivalent, can use this equivalency to replace the GCSE entry requirement. Other universities may accept the equivalency qualification, however, it is your responsibility to check with the individual institutions first.
After you’ve made payment, the Equivalency Tests Team will confirm your registration and you will be sent a revision pack to support your revision at home. When you’re ready, you can choose from a list of exam dates taking place on campus or at Holy Cross College in Bury, with a choice of three dates typically offered per month.
Please note, the Equivalency Tests Team work Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm. If you make payment outside these hours we will be in touch when we return to the office.
Important: in order to meet the assessment criteria for the English and Literacy examinations, you must demonstrate a satisfactory level of English language proficiency through the use of appropriate grammar in your answers in order to pass.
