The Higher-Level Teaching Assistant Preparation course is an online programme and consists of supported and self-directed study, access to online materials and guidance, and six mandatory webinars.

The course starts on 22nd January 2026

The course is made up of 6 sessions, all sessions run from 1-4pm on the following dates:

Course is £900 which includes the assessment fee

Course Description

“Preparation courses are designed for suitably experienced support staff who are already working, or are able to work, at a higher level in their educational setting and are looking to gain professional status” (HLTA North of England).

HLTA (Higher Level Teaching Assistant) status is awarded by the HLTA National Assessment Partnership (HNAP) to Teaching Assistants (TAs) who have been externally assessed against the HLTA Professional Standards and have successfully provided sufficient evidence to meet each standard” (HLTA North of England).

Applications are welcomed from Teaching Assistants in all types of schools and early years settings. In order to meet the entry requirements, applicants must:

·       be employed full or part-time in a school or educational setting, working with children or young people between the ages of three and nineteen.

·       have the full support of their headteacher

·       have appropriate level 2 qualifications in English and Maths (these are normally GCSE grade C and above or Adult Literacy and Numeracy level 2).
